The step-by-step process

  1. The deck

    Get yourself a Tarot de Marseille deck.

  2. Shuffling

    • Shuffle the 22 cards flat or fan-style to mix them.
    • Cut the deck with your left hand (the hand of intuition).
    • Reassemble the deck into a single pile.

  3. The draw

    • Spread the cards face down in front of you.
    • Ask a clear, open question (avoid closed yes/no questions).
    • Draw three cards with your left hand and line them up left to right, still face down.

    • Card 1 (left) — the foundations, the origin of the matter, or the past.
    • Card 2 (centre) — the current situation, the forces at play, or the obstacle.
    • Card 3 (right) — the evolution, the likely outcome, or the advice to follow.

Interpretation

Turn over Card 1The main symbol represents what led to the situation.
Turn over Card 2The gaze of the figures (do they face each other, or turn away?) reveals the block or the current dynamic.
Turn over Card 3Connect the three visuals to sum up the overall message.
